380TD
- Firefly
The Firefly is a 380TD hovercraft
equipped to deal with a range of incidents including rescuing
people who became trapped in the mud and providing support to
the area during times of inland flooding.
The 380TD is the smallest craft in the Griffon range, capable of
carrying 6 persons or a payload of 450kgs. The 380TD is a rugged
rigid-inflatable hovercraft and benefits from having two diesel
engines, one for lift and one for thrust, improving craft
control in a rescue scenario. With the hover-on hover-off
trailer, one person can quickly and easily transport and operate
this unique vessel virtually anywhere.
The Firefly can be used to complement the capabilities of rescue
operations and the coast guard. The hovercraft can be a major
asset to these services.
The Firefly increases
the flexibility of rescue operations and adds rescue capacity.
It can assist with incidents along the shoreline and other more
remote locations, where fire appliances may not be able to
reach.
This craft can reach trapped casualties in just a few minutes,
and also ensure the safety of firefighters, who until now had to
walk out onto the mud and risk becoming stuck themselves.
Clearly with the flooding we have seen recently a hovercraft can
be a huge asset on inland waterways, but we also believe the
hovercraft could be used to ferry equipment and staff to
incidents such as animal rescues on soft ground or road traffic
collisions that may involve a beach.
